About This Blog

This is something of an experiment. I’m not sure if it will last or not. I wanted a place to discuss some of the issues that are important to me. This journal was primarily set up as a feminist or if you prefer “equalist” blog. However, as other issues are brought to my attention, they may also find their place in my posts.

Feminism, to me, is about equality. It is NOT about misandrism (hatred of men). In fact, not only does it not condone such a practice, it is by it’s nature against it. Sexism is wrong no matter who it’s directed toward. No single sex, race, person, gender, or group is solely responsible for the problems of the world. We all play an important part in the way that things are, good and bad alike.

I find it extremely sad that such a disclaimer is necessary–and I do believe it is necessary–but too often have I seen the term “feminist” misused, often as a justification for making sexist remarks against men. Furthermore, too many people–and this once included myself–do not understand the true meaning of the word. Once again, they associate it with misandrism. It’s not.

Here are a couple of the Dictionary.com definitions of the word:

–noun
1. the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
2. (sometimes initial capital letter) an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.
3. feminine character.
